Neo4j is the leader in Graph Database & Analytics, helping organizations uncover hidden patterns and relationships across billions of data connections deeply, easily, and quickly. Customers use Neo4j to gain a deeper understanding of their business and reveal new ways of solving their most pressing problems. Over 84% of Fortune 100 companies use Neo4j, along with a vibrant community of 250,000+ developers, data scientists, and architects across the globe.
At Neo4j, we’re proud to build the technology that powers breakthrough solutions for our customers. These solutions have helped NASA get to Mars two years earlier, broke the Panama Papers for the ICIJ, and are helping Transport for London to cut congestion by 10% and save $750M a year. Some of our other notable customers include Intuit, Lockheed Martin, Novartis, UBS, and Walmart.
Neo4j experienced rapid growth this year as organizations looking to deploy generative AI (GenAI) recognized graph databases as essential for improving it’s accuracy, transparency, and explainability. Growth was further fueled by enterprise demand for Neo4j’s cloud offering and partnerships with leading cloud hyperscalers and ecosystem leaders. Learn more at neo4j.com and follow us on LinkedIn.

As business, society and knowledge become increasingly connected, our technology promotes innovation by helping organizations to find and understand data relationships. We created, drive and lead the graph database category, and we’re disrupting how organizations leverage their data to innovate and stay competitive.
The Role:
The Security team at Neo4j would like to welcome an intern this summer. We have two projects to propose that the intern can choose from. When applying for this position, please write which project you would prefer to work on.
1. Security in Aura Portal project:
Aura portal is an internal centre of information about Aura components. Engineering teams use it to monitor the health of the components. The definition of “health” (alternatively known as excellence or software hygiene) needs to be expanded to include security characteristics.
It is a known fact in application security that the security team needs to meet the developers at their watering holes. We can achieve better results by presenting security indicators and means to improve them at the portal the developers use for their daily work compared to expecting developers to interact with additional security tools.
The goal of the project is to expand the information presented at the portal to include security indicators and to allow developers clearly defined ways to improve the score of their components.
To work with the Aura Enablement team to understand the technology behind Aura portal and with AppSec team to add security indicators to Aura components in the portal.

2. ASVS chatbot: a GraphRAG project:
In 2024 the Neo4j security team built a prototype ASVS chatbot: https://neo4j.com/developer-blog/asvs-security-graph-chatbot/
It has a graph of ASVS requirements in Aura DB and uses GraphRAG to identify security requirements relevant to a feature. The prototype was released under open source licence, and presented in developer blog and several conferences/meetups, generating good publicity for Neo4j usage in security workflows. We’d like to develop this prototype to become a production worthy application used in Neo4j engineering.
The project will provide Neo4j engineering teams with an easy, self-serving way to get security requirements relevant to the feature they are developing. Reducing effort and time for the developer and increasing the likelihood that the development process applies the principle of secure by design.
By productionising and improving the existing prototype this can be achieved. At the moment it needs to be run locally, by setting environment variables and bringing your own key, which impedes engineers' engagement with the chat bot.
To work with the AppSec team to improve ASVS chat bot, taking the prototype to a full-featured application deployed on Neo4j infrastructure.
